2006 1st place emPower Art Contest George R. Brown Convention Center, Houston, Texas 2008 1st place Lawndale Art Center Summer 2008 Big Show 2008 1st place Texas French Alliance for the Arts, exhibit Born on August 6, 1968, in the Gulf Coast town of Liberty, Texas, daniel-kayne’s artistic roots began in a family with a long history of ranchers and farmers in a hands-on environment where he was always creating, building or learning. His brother, cousins and he played out what was a Huckleberry Finn-like childhood. They were explorers, scientists and hunters. ... fishing, camping and climbing trees in the middle of dense woods and hiking the marshes around their Texas homes. As he grew older, whether it was carpentry or other projects he got his hands on, kayne’s fascination with the act of creating ignited an insatiable passion for what was to become his career as an artist. In 2006 daniel-kayne moved to New York City to continue his studies and partake in a painting residency at the New York School of Visual Arts. Earlier that year, he attended The Glassell School of Art at the Museum of Fine Arts Houston and in 2000 received his Masters Degree from the University of Houston. When he moved to New York, he worked on his art in a SoHo loft that he shared with a Korean Buddhist Monk, living in what was the Zen Center on Spring Street. The explorer in daniel-kayne has taken him to Europe, Asia, and the Middle East and specifically to such places as Iran for a photo and video project. Daniel-kayne was honored twice in 2008, first as the first place winner of Lawndale Art Center’s Big Show, then by the Texas French Alliance for the Arts, as their 1st annual art exhibit & competition winner. He has since taken on being schooled by the Universe... for life is truly short... the simplist of all activities may actually be the most pleasing... like water falling into itself... daniel-kayne currently lives and works in his home town,Houston, Texas, as well as San Francisco and New York.
